Inquiry regarding photographic accreditation via IRC
[edit]Hi a few days ago, I was on the IRC chat asking regarding admission to the wikinews "reporter" guild as a photographer. I left the IRC early as there was no answer within a few hours. You saw my request and asked me here via wikicommons. I would like to know if you can help me or have me a hint in which direction I could go. Regards. Wolkenjaeger (talk) 19:37, 17 February 2023 (UTC)
- Hi @Wolkenjaeger, when you upload next photo about a recent (newsworthy) event, please let me know. I am happy to help you write it as a photo essay report for Wikinews. This should help you get the accreditation (and as a result, better access to future events through the accreditation). Please let me know how it sounds to you. File:Good On Ya Alberta (31488297137).jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.
If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |

Round 1 of Picture of the Year 2024 voting is open!
[edit]
Dear Wikimedian,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2024 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year is the nineteenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2024) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and top 5% of most popular images in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just three images to become the Picture of the Year.
Round 1 will end on UTC.
Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee
You are receiving this message because you voted in the 2023 Picture of the Year contest.
Hi Aafi, I clicked the link, at the top of the page the 'Vote now' button is greyed out. How do I vote now, please? Gryllida (talk) 19:50, 24 September 2025 (UTC)
- FYI, @Giles Laurent, kindly address this query. 😌 signed, Aafi (talk) 17:56, 25 September 2025 (UTC)
- Hi Gryllida, the "vote now" buttons brings you to the gallery pages. From there just click on a gallery to start voting -- Giles Laurent (talk) 18:49, 25 September 2025 (UTC)
- Hi thank you for your reply. It didnt take me to gallery pages it did nothing at all. I tried clicking it. Now it says voting unavailable. Gryllida (talk) 20:43, 28 September 2025 (UTC)
- You probably clicked the "Click here to vote now!" from the blue button in the message above. By doing that you already appear in the list of galleries. If you then click again on the vote now button while already being on the list of galleries then it does nothing because it's only purpose is to access the list of galleries page.
- To vote during round 1 you should have clicked on a gallery, for example Arthropods, which would have brought you to this page where you could have voted for any picture from the Arthropods gallery. However, the Round 1 voting ended 28 September 00:00:00 UTC, so it is not possible to vote anymore for round 1 candidates.
- But starting from 29 September 00:00:00 UTC you will be able to vote for up to 3 finalists in round 2. Here is the link to vote for the finalists
- Kind regards,
