| Description |
English: modernist-style recreation of a random flag as depicted in Juan de la Cosa's map around the year 1500, placed in a location near the mouth of the Ganges river, possibly flown by a local muslim ruler. The hypothesis that this would be the National Flag of the Bengal Sultanate (in a time when no national flags existed yet), is entirely unsubstantiated. The color in the Cosa map doesn't tell us much about possible colors used on possible flags in the Ganges region in the 1500s; and quite similar flags are planted by Cosa in Nigeria, South Africa and Algeria. |
