I strongly oppose intersecting camera categories with subject matter. On that basis, we could recreate the whole topical category tree for each different camera! Delete this category and upmerge to Category:Taken with Nikon D5200. @Vogler: please do not continue to populate this category while its appropriateness is being discussed. @Jmabel: please do not upmerge anything since Category:Taken with Nikon D5200 is heavily overpopulated with over 14,000 photos. There is a huge need for it to be divided into object depicted categories. Vogler (talk) 20:17, 1 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
This is not a topical category where people are likely to look through it for an example image. I would imagine that any uses of by-camera categories would involve category intersections, not going by hand and eye through the entire category contents, so the size of the category shouldn't matter. Splitting it up only makes it more difficult if someone is trying to intersect it with criteria other than the one you split by. - Jmabel ! talk 20:32, 1 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I've posted at Commons:Village pump#Should we split by-camera categories by subject matter of photos to draw broader attention to this discussion. I did my best to keep the wording neutral, but @Vogler, if you think it is non-neutral you are welcome to comment there. Other than that, we should keep the discussion here. - Jmabel ! talk 20:39, 1 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
